Prof. Desire Manirakiza is the National Coordinator of the Economic Empowerment and Youth Employment Programme (PAEEJ). Associate Professor and Professor of Sociology, Anthropology and Political Science at various universities, including the University of Burundi and the Catholic University of Central Africa, he holds a PhD in Sociology of Populations and Development obtained in 2013 at the University of Franche Comté in France. He also holds a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DEA) in Political Science, obtained at the University of Yaoundé II-SOA.
Desire Manirakiza is involved in both local and international research spaces. To this end, he carried out his post-doctoral research at the University of Neuchâtel in Switzerland and is a member of several scholarly associations, such as the International Association of French Speaking Sociologists (AISLF), the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA). Before his appointment as PAEEJ Coordinator, he was Coordinator of R4D (The Swiss Programme for Research on Global Issues for Development) at the Catholic University of Central Africa, a research project involving four academic institutions (Université catholique d’Afrique centrale du Cameroun, Université Gaston Berger of Saint-Louis in Senegal, Institut de hautes études internationales et du développement of Genève in Switzerland and the University of Applied Sciences in Western Switzerland-Lausanne). He has published widely scholarly article in a number of peer-reviews research journals and publications.
